On Tuesday, April 21, City Council voted to take the South Garden Plots, turning them into athletic fields.

Hopefully this is the end. We do fear, however, that they will come back for the North Garden Plots at a future date.

We feel that this move was a mistake for many reasons. The gardens are a quiet, water absorbing place in an overactive, flooding part of Naperville. The Gardens produce little traffic to interfere with emergency in and out traffic at Edward Hospital. The traffic study done by the city was superficial. There are 120 parking spaces planned for the new sports fields. This amount of additional traffic on an already busy street could have complications for emergency visitors to Edward Hospital.

We have to feel consoled with the result of our work against this proposal. When it began they were talking about moving all of the gardens to DuPage River Park in South Naperville. As it ended up, we saved the larger part of the gardens for now. But we must be vigilant, because they want all of the Garden Plot lands.

We welcome your participation in our effort. Please visit the Join Us page and give us your name and Email. We will let you know of any new happenings in the Garden Plot saga.
